About Misar Khalaf Shingali

Technique: pencil

Originally from Shingal, he now lives as a refugee in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Although he loved drawing since childhood, he could not enter the Faculty of Fine Arts because of the difficult conditions he lived in at the time.

Misar Khalaf Shingali was born in Shingal in 1985. Misar graduated in Radiology from the Institute of Wellness.

Misar says: “ISIS came and killed the men and abducted and raped the women, abducted the children. I used my pencil as a tool to inform the world about the tragedy of the depressive situation my people find themselves in and I will continue until the last minute.”

Misar has mostly drawn children longing for their parents after falling victim to the atrocities inflicted by the Islamic State.
