Yacob Ibrahim was born in Dourbassia (Hassake, north Syria ) in 1956. He is the grandson of refugees who fled the 1915 genocide in Ottoman Turkey and settled in Syria.

In 1982 he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus with an excellent average.

Yacob continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy, in 1989. Since then he has participated in many national and international exhibitions.

About his latest arts Yacob says: ‘Since ancient times, the cave walls expressed the desires and sensations of the people, and above these walls, the artist wanted to draw his feelings away from any propaganda or gain, and what is now happening in my country, Syria – the killing, displacement and destruction of civilization. From the Sumerians to the Arameans, ask me, as a Syriac Syrian artist, to refer to this barbarism, the brutality of the black hole, in the wall of civilization.’
